Loss of muscle is a hot topic when it comes to ageing, but if you have a protein-filled breakfast every day, you can help avoid deterioration.
Eating a diet that includes a nutritious breakfast will help build muscle, states new research.
As you age, muscle loss is an increasing issue, and will leave you in risk of bone injuries and hip fractures if left untreated.
Research
A survey by Meridian Foods’ discovered half of Britons alone spend less than 10 minutes on breakfast, and one out of every 10 don’t eat the crucial meal at all.
Helen Money, nutritionist at the Meridian, said, “Skipping breakfast or choosing a less than optimal breakfast to fill rather than nourish increases the risk of nutritional deficiencies impacting both wellbeing and performance.”
She added, “A nourishing breakfast does not have to be time consuming, just stirring nut butter into porridge increases B vitamins, iron, magnesium and zinc all of which are needed for energy creation.”
To ward off the loss of muscle, protein is a crucial breakfast ingredient, says James Haskell, a rugby player as well as sporting ambassador for Meridian.
He states: “Protein is essential for repairing and rebuilding muscle broken down when exercising.
“I personally include nut butters as part of my breakfast routine as they’re a rich source of natural protein which helps stimulate muscle growth and helps my body recover.”
You can find protein in many breakfast foods, like fish, eggs, chicken, or yoghurt.
Diabetes and Heart disease
Research claims that those who skip having breakfast are prone to higher concentrations of glucose and inflammation markers, including insulin resistance following lunch.
According to the University of Hohenheim, Germany’s study, skipping the meal can result in chronic inflammation, also known to change insulin sensitivity, increasing chances of Type 2 Diabetes.
In addition, those who do eat breakfast seem to have lower heart disease, blood pressue, and alcohol, according to US-based American Heart Association.
Weight loss
On top of building musce, breakfast with high amounts of protein can promote the loss of pesky weight, according to a study by the Tel Aviv University.
