Now that Christmas is over and the month of January brings about New Year’s resolution, most people hope to shed the extra weight gained over the holidays.
However, if you jump on a high-fat diet of pies and high-calorie mulled wine over to one low in unhealthy fat and low sugar, it can get exhausted.
“Food is there to be enjoyed as much as it is needed for nourishment,” stated Lily Soutter, nutritionist.
She mentioned that the holidays can often wear people down and “Christmas can take its toll on their waistline, which can lead to that depressing January diet.”
Soutter said if you take simple steps in order to have a healthier and more balanced diet prior to the arrival of January, you can prevent having to count calories into the upcoming new year.
These tips can help anyone begin a diet to slim down and trim that fat right away.
Don’t skip breakfast
Never prevent yourself from having breakfast, said Soutter.
“Set yourself up for success by having a healthy but hearty breakfast,” the nutritionist stated. “Research has shown that those who eat breakfast tend to have a more of a balanced diet, are less likely to be overweight, lose weight more successfully and are less likely to snack unnecessarily.
“One study has also shown that participants who consumed good quality protein at breakfast stayed ‘fuller for longer’, which in turn prevented overeating later on in the day.”
She mentioned that by eating seeds or berries in Greek yogurt, and eggs with breakfast, you can add protein to your diet easily.
Leftovers
Leftover turkey that you had at Christmas dinner can help you lose the weight.
“Turkey may be a perfect festive choice when it comes to weight management,” said Soutter. “This lean meat is low in calories and is a source of good quality protein.”
